We are Stern Consumers of Cultural Revolutions cycle
Since 2012ID: C6
The cycle We Are Stern Consumers of Cultural Revolutions explores the legacy of the Vitebsk avant-garde and the UNOVIS school in post-Soviet Belarus, showing how the radical ideas of modernism return as cultural commodities. Observing the reconstruction of the former Vitebsk Art School and its transformation into a museum, the artist traces the shift from utopia to simulacrum, from revolutionary aesthetics to decorative heritage. Suprematist forms reappear as design motifs and branded symbols of “national culture”. Combining documentary observation, archival montage, and institutional critique, the cycle examines how ideology commodifies its own avant-garde past and exposes the paradox of a modernity that endlessly reproduces what it has already consumed.
