Art Aktivism cycle
2010–2013ID: C5
Art Aktivism is a cycle of politically engaged works, actions, and installations that marked a shift in Sergey Shabohin’s practice from academic art to activist expression. Created between 2010 and 2013, the project emerged during a period of civic awakening in Belarus and embraced an anti-aesthetic strategy rooted in the visual language of protest. At its core stands the online platform Art Aktivist – an independent institution founded to politicize Belarusian art, introduce feminist and queer perspectives, and challenge the divide between official and underground culture. Through its slogans, performances, and collective gestures, Art Aktivism transforms artistic practice into a tool of social resistance and self-organization.
