Fear of Castration cycle
Since 2016ID: C8
The cycle Fear of Castration examines the relationship between sexuality, repression, and ideology within patriarchal Belarusian and Polish societies. Focusing on the visual and psychological tension between the “white cube” of official culture and the “black cube” of queer spaces, the project transforms darkrooms and cruising zones into sites of political and emotional inquiry. Through photography, video, and installation, Shabohin builds an archive of vanished queer clubs and explores how fear, desire, and marginal aesthetics expose the mechanisms of control embedded in cultural purity. The cycle reads the darkroom as both a physical and epistemological space – a dark anatomy of society where visibility, shame, and resistance converge.
